If you named a guardian in a will years ago, revisit it. Life changes. Relationships change. People move to other states. The person you chose then may not be the closest person now. Update the will, and update the short-term guardianship form with it.
What I Said
From my September 10 Parents Edition workshop at the Cambria Hotel in Calabasas, lightly edited for readability.
Also, if a will was created at a certain point and you named a guardian there, it is important to revise those documents from time to time, because life changes, relationships change, people can move to other places, people can move to other states. And you always should consider, you know, keep that closest person available and named, update your wills and short-term guardianship forms.
